AI Search Visibility for NH Small Businesses
Google AI Overviews. ChatGPT Search. AI Mode. Each platform discovers and retrieves content differently — but across all of them, the businesses that show up are the ones with a well-structured, crawlable, authoritative web presence. That's the work TechDad already does.
What Is AI Search Visibility?
AI search visibility is the degree to which your business appears in answers generated by AI-powered search platforms — Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT Search, Perplexity, and similar tools.
These platforms don't all work the same way. Google's AI products run on Google's own index. ChatGPT Search uses OpenAI's documented OAI-SearchBot crawler. Perplexity operates its own crawler. Each has its own discovery and retrieval system. What they share is a dependence on the same underlying quality signals: a crawlable website, clear and helpful content, consistent business information, and credible external signals.
For most New Hampshire small businesses, the gap isn't a missing "AI strategy" — it's a website that isn't fully optimized for how search engines and AI systems understand and surface local businesses. That's the work TechDad already does through website design and local SEO.
Where AI Search Visibility Matters
Each platform discovers and retrieves content differently. Understanding how each one works is the first step to making sure your business isn't accidentally invisible on any of them.
Google AI Overviews & AI Mode
Google's AI-generated summaries and conversational search experience run on Google's own index and ranking signals. Google has stated publicly that there are no special technical requirements for AI Overviews beyond normal Search eligibility — the same SEO fundamentals that help you rank also support your chances of being surfaced here.
ChatGPT Search
OpenAI documents OAI-SearchBot as the dedicated search crawler for ChatGPT Search — separate from GPTBot, which is used for model training. Websites that want their content discoverable and linkable in ChatGPT Search should not block OAI-SearchBot in their robots.txt. Content that is crawlable, well-structured, and genuinely authoritative is more likely to surface.
Perplexity
Perplexity operates its own crawler (PerplexityBot) and retrieves live web content to generate answers. Like other AI answer engines, it favors content that is accessible, clearly organized, and cites credible sources. Authoritative local business information and well-structured service content help signal relevance.
Other AI Platforms
AI-assisted search and answer tools use a mix of their own crawlers, licensed search indexes, and retrieval systems. While the exact mechanisms differ by platform, strong crawlability, clear content, consistent business information, and legitimate external authority are the common factors that hold across ecosystems.
What Google Says About AI Overviews
According to Google Search Central guidance, there are no special technical requirements, special files, or special schema needed for a page to appear in Google AI Overviews or AI Mode. Eligibility comes from normal Search indexing and the same quality signals that drive traditional rankings — helpful content, strong site structure, good E-E-A-T signals, and normal crawlability. There is no separate AI submission process or AI-specific markup that changes this.
AI Visibility Starts With a Strong Website
Before any AI platform can surface your business, it has to be able to find you, read you, and trust you. That's a website and SEO problem — and it's the same problem TechDad addresses through every website and SEO engagement.
Crawlability & Indexability
If Google can't crawl your pages, AI systems dependent on Google's index can't read them either. And if you're accidentally blocking OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot, those platforms can't reach you at all. Fast load times, clean code, no accidental noindex tags, no broken internal links.
Clear Service & Location Pages
AI systems need to understand what you do and where you do it. Specific service pages and location pages give them structured, unambiguous information to associate your business with relevant searches in the right geography.
Internal Linking & Site Structure
A logical site structure with clear internal links helps both Google and AI crawlers navigate your content, understand what's most important, and connect related topics across your site.
Consistent Business Entity Info
Your business name, address, phone, and category should match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, and every citation. Inconsistencies create ambiguity that weakens your entity signals across all platforms.
Reviews & External Authority
Reviews on Google and other platforms, mentions in local directories, and earned links from relevant sources build the external authority that AI systems factor into how they evaluate and surface content.
Original, Helpful Content
Content that directly answers real customer questions — written by someone who actually knows the trade — is more likely to be used as a source in AI answers than generic or thin pages. This is what TechDad builds for every client.

What an AI Visibility Engagement Covers
Every engagement starts with an honest audit of where you stand. This isn't a new or separate service — it's the same technical, content, local, and authority work TechDad does for every client, reviewed through the lens of AI search visibility.
AI Visibility Audit
A structured review of how your business appears in AI-assisted search today — including indexability, robots.txt access for AI search crawlers, entity consistency, and content clarity.
Website & Content Structure
Clear service pages, logical heading structure, well-organized internal links, and content that directly answers real customer questions. This is the same work TechDad does in every website and SEO engagement.
Technical SEO Foundations
Fast load times, mobile-friendly design, proper crawlability, and clean indexation. These are the same fundamentals Google requires for Search eligibility — and they matter equally for AI-assisted platforms.
Entity & Business Information
Consistent business name, address, phone, and category across your website, Google Business Profile, and local directories. Clear entity signals help AI systems accurately associate your business with relevant searches.
Local Search Signals
Google Business Profile optimization, local citations, service area clarity, and geographic relevance. These are the same signals TechDad strengthens through local SEO and GBP management work.
Helpful, Original Content
Blog posts, service pages, and resources that demonstrate real expertise — written by someone who understands the trade, not generated to fill space. This is what TechDad builds for every client.
Proof & External Authority
Reviews, work examples, credentials, and earned mentions from relevant sources. These trust signals matter to both human visitors and AI systems that evaluate content credibility.
AI Crawler Accessibility
Reviewing your robots.txt to confirm AI search crawlers — including OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT Search and PerplexityBot — aren't accidentally blocked. Distinct from training crawlers; you control what to allow.
What AI Visibility Is Not
There's a lot of noise right now about AI search. Some of it is legitimate. A lot of it is vendors repackaging the same services with new labels and inflated promises. Here's what I won't promise — because I'd rather be honest upfront than oversell and underdeliver.
If you've seen "guarantee your spot in AI Overviews" pitches, that's a red flag. Google itself has said there are no special tricks for AI Overview inclusion. No one controls that placement except Google.
How AI Visibility and Traditional SEO Work Together
Google's AI Overviews and AI Mode run on Google's index — which means the same SEO work that helps you rank traditionally also supports your chances of appearing in AI-generated answers. Google has confirmed this: there's no separate path in.
For ChatGPT Search, Perplexity, and other platforms, the inputs are different crawlers and systems — but the underlying content quality and authority signals are similar. A business with a strong, clearly structured, trustworthy web presence is better positioned across all of them.
The practical AI-specific layer is narrower than most vendors imply: confirming AI search crawlers aren't blocked, reviewing your entity signals, and making sure your content is written in a way that's useful as a source — not just a ranking target. That's what I review as part of an AI visibility engagement.
Strong SEO foundation builds…
- Crawlable, fast-loading, indexable website
- Service and location pages Google can understand
- Optimized Google Business Profile and local citations
- Reviews and earned external authority
- Helpful content written from real expertise
…which creates opportunities to be surfaced in
- Google AI Overviews and AI Mode answers
- ChatGPT Search results and citations
- Perplexity answers and source references
- Other AI-assisted search platforms
- Branded entity recognition across ecosystems
Surfacing in AI answers is a possible outcome — not a guaranteed result.
What We Can Actually Measure
AI platforms don't share citation or impression data the way Google Search Console does. Here's what's genuinely measurable — and where we rely on periodic manual checks.
Google Search Console
Impressions, clicks, indexing status, crawl coverage, and core web vitals for traditional search — the same signals that support AI Overview eligibility.
Referral & Analytics Traffic
GA4 can surface referral traffic from chatgpt.com and other AI platforms where users click through to your site. Not comprehensive, but a real data point.
Crawl & Indexability Checks
Confirming your pages are indexed, AI search crawlers aren't blocked in robots.txt, and your site structure is navigable for automated systems.
Entity & Citation Consistency
Auditing your business name, address, phone, and category across directories and platforms — the entity signals AI systems rely on to understand who you are.
Manual Visibility Checks
Periodic searches on Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, and Perplexity for branded and category queries to see how your business is described or cited, where it appears at all.
A note on tracking: No tool provides complete visibility across all AI platforms. Google Search Console covers Google's products. ChatGPT referral traffic is partially visible in GA4. Perplexity and other platforms provide no publisher reporting. Manual spot-checks are a real part of AI visibility monitoring — not a workaround.

What You Get Working With Me
I'm not repackaging AI buzzwords into a new service line. I'm a single operator based in Concord, NH, who builds websites and does local SEO specifically for contractors, small businesses, and nonprofits across New Hampshire.
The work I do for AI visibility is the same technical, content, local, and authority work I do for every client — reviewed through the lens of how AI platforms discover and use web content. I'm not selling you something separate. I'm making sure the foundation we build together is as strong as possible across all of the platforms your customers are using to find local businesses.
I'll be direct about what I can and can't measure, and I'll tell you if the additional AI-specific review doesn't turn up anything worth addressing. My goal is to do work that actually matters — not to sell you on a trend.

No — it reinforces it. The businesses that appear in AI Overviews and AI-assisted search results are almost always the ones with a strong SEO foundation: well-structured websites, clear content, consistent business information, and legitimate local authority. AI visibility isn't a separate strategy; it's what good foundational work makes possible.
No, and anyone who promises that is not being straight with you. Google decides what appears in AI Overviews, and they've been explicit that there are no special technical tricks or files that guarantee inclusion — it comes from normal Search eligibility. What I can do is make sure your website gives Google the best possible reason to trust and surface your content.
According to Google Search Central guidance, there are no special technical requirements, special files, or special schema needed for AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond normal Search eligibility and SEO fundamentals. The same things that help you rank on Google — quality content, crawlability, good site structure, strong entity signals — are what matter here too.
OAI-SearchBot is OpenAI's documented search crawler for ChatGPT Search — distinct from GPTBot, which OpenAI uses for model training. If your robots.txt blocks OAI-SearchBot, your pages are less likely to be discovered, surfaced, or linked in ChatGPT Search results. You don't have to allow all AI bots, but if you want ChatGPT Search visibility, not blocking OAI-SearchBot specifically is a practical step.
AI search visibility is largely built on the same foundation as local SEO — the work covers technical SEO, website structure, Google Business Profile, content, and citations. The difference is that I specifically review AI-related factors: whether AI search crawlers are blocked, whether your entity information is clear enough for AI systems to understand your business, and how your content reads in the context of AI-generated answers.
It depends on what's being measured. Crawl and indexing changes — fixing a blocked crawler, improving page structure — can be confirmed relatively quickly through Search Console and crawl logs. Seeing your business surfaced more often in actual AI answers is harder to predict and track. No AI platform publishes a citation timeline, and authority-based visibility can take considerably longer than a few months. I won't give you a timeline I can't stand behind.
If your SEO foundation is genuinely strong — crawlable site, solid content, consistent citations, optimized GBP — you're in much better shape than most. An AI visibility audit would confirm that and identify any specific gaps: a blocked search crawler, a missing entity signal, content that could be structured more clearly. If everything checks out, you may need very little additional work. I'll tell you honestly.

TechDad Technology does not guarantee placement in Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT search results, Perplexity answers, or any AI-generated content.
